What is FotoFacial / PhotoFacial / Photorejuvenation?
Laser technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections, the signs of aging (wrinkles), birthmarks, unsightly small veins, and other blemishes. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction.
How is the FotoFacial / PhotoFacial / Photorejuvenation procedure performed?
A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated, and you will be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the laser handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of laser are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a rubber band. An anesthetic cream may be used, but is seldom required. Each treatment usually takes about twenty minutes. Treatment is usually administered in a series of procedures that provide excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction rates.
Why are multiple treatments necessary?
Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, and the severity of the individual problem, a series of five or six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activity. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk. It preserves the “no downtime” feature that people appreciate so much.
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is purified botulinum toxin type A. It is a naturally derived product used to reduce unwanted muscle activity. It has been used for medical purposes for more than 20 years, primarily for ophthalmologic and neurologic muscular diseases, for which it is FDA approved. More recently, it has been used for the cosmetic reduction of facial expression lines. It is considered safe and effective when properly used. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a great adjunct to laser photorejuvenation in reducing the appearance of wrinkles in all ages.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic acts by producing muscle relaxation at treated sites. It does this by inhibiting contraction of the targeted muscles, causing them to relax. The strategic relaxation of certain facial muscles leads to decreased wrinkling of the overlying skin.
What kind of facial lines does it remove?
Prominent facial expression lines, especially horizontal lines on the forehead, vertical lines between the eye brows, and crow's feet are most dramatically improved with treatment.
How is treatment performed and how many treatments are required?
A small quantity of solution is injected directly into the muscles that are the cause of the prominent furrowing or expression lines. Typically several injections are given with each treatment, and one or two treatments are usually effective in achieving the muscle relaxation required to eliminate the unwanted expression lines.
What is Collagen?
Collagen is actually part of the natural support structure of your skin. Wrinkles form when its natural collagen thins. This loss is mostly a factor of aging, but sun exposure, pollution, health, heredity, and lifestyle also play a role. Collagen replacement therapy (Using Zyderm and Zyplast collagen implants) replenishes the skin's collagen layer, smoothing lines and wrinkles, and adding definition to lip borders from the inside out, with immediate results. Collagen has been FDA approved and used successfully on millions of patients for over 15 years!
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a synthetic form of the natural filler material "hyaluronic acid" which resembles collagen and is found in skin tissue. Because Restylane is a pure synthetic product it does not require allergy skin testing as with collagen. Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen and gives the same results as with collagen. Restylane has been used for many years on millions of people and it is FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles. For patients who are committed to long term maintenance, Restylane is a more cost effective treatment as it lasts longer than collagen but costs only slightly more.
What types of wrinkles can be treated?
Most commonly treated areas are the nasolabial lines, the lines around the lips, and the oral commissure lines. Depending on the deepness and location of the wrinkles, the doctor will decide what type of collagen or Restylane would be best for you. Collagen & Restylane can also be used on the lips to give them a fuller more attractive appearance.
What is the treatment like?
Depending on how many wrinkles you need to have corrected, most collagen & Restylane injections take about 15-30 minutes. There is a slight pain with every injection but you can use a numbing cream prior to the treatment to make the injections more comfortable. You will have a small amount of redness and swelling around the injection sites, but that will resolve within a few hours. Your skin may be slightly sensitive for 1-2 days, but you can generally resume all regular activities.
What types of leg veins can be treated?
Varicose veins, usually the deeper blue veins, need different treatment from the discolored clusters (known as "spider veins") that are near the skin surface. For this reason, our VascuLight Laser system is equipped with two different laser technologies. Each will be used as felt needed on your type of veins. This noninvasive technique can now replace the conventional surgical interventions offered in the past.
Are surface veins and spider veins treated the same way?
These smaller, superficial structures require a different technology for successful treatment, not technically a laser at all. Smaller surface veins are treated using light energy. The light energy is absorbed by the blood, changed to heat, and the vein is destroyed. You usually see immediate results with disappearance of these veins.
How many treatments are needed?
Many leg veins need multiple treatments, often over a few months before the effect is complete. Even small vessels may require some time to resolve. Sometimes a bit of "matting" or "staining" surrounds the treated vessel. By using both technologies we can treat the vein and this minor temporary discoloration and offer a complete, excellent outcome.
What is Endermology?
Endermology is the world's first patented technology, which is FDA-approved to temporarily, yet effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite, increase circulation, relieve minor muscle aches and pains, and relax muscle spasms. The Endermology experience is a comprehensive, non-surgical approach which embraces the physical and aesthetic needs of the whole body using a patented technique proven safe and effective. Discover the beauty of a figure that inspires self-confidence.
What is cellulite?
Almost all women have cellulite. The culprits are weight gain, genetic predisposition, and inevitable hormone changes throughout life. These factors cause the fat cells in the subcutaneous fat layer to increase up to 300 times their original size and stick together inside the pockets in which they are enclosed. The pocket is stretched upward while the fibers in-between the pockets are strained, circulation is inhibited and toxins and water are trapped. The result is cellulite. Cellulite does not respond well to weight loss, exercise, creams, or even surgical liposuction. The ONLY FDA-APPROVED method to reduce cellulite is that of Endermotherapie.
How does it work?
Endermology is like performing gymnastics on your skin and underlying tissue; suction and motorized vibrators massage your skin in a special way, thus exercising it. Gentle suction mobilizes your connective tissue and the vibrators help to increase circulation, thus facilitating exhange of fluid and clearance of fat. Endermology closes the gap between the two forces that originally created the dimpled appearance, thus fighting the appearance of cellulite.
How many treatments are needed?
The average number of treatments is two per week. If you are simultaneously in the process of losing a significant amount of weight or if you have a long-term problematic cellulite condition, one treatment per week is recommended. More than two sessions per week will not bring faster results. Sessions last an average of 25 minutes. Your problem areas are focused on, but time is given to other areas to stimulate general circulation and elimination. Usually people see changes within 5 or 6 sessions, but 15 is the average number of suggested treatments. Monthly maintenance sessions are suggested thereafter.
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic, acne-like condition of the facial skin that may affect as many as 13 million Americans, including President Clinton. It typically first appears when people reach their 30s and 40s as a flushing or subtle redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead that comes and goes. If left untreated, Rosacea tends to worsen over time. As the condition progresses, the redness becomes more persistent, bumps and pimples called papules and pustules appear and small dilated blood vessels may become visible. Rosacea is worsened with sunlight and certain foods.
How is Rosacea treated with a laser?
At Cosmetic Laser Center of Los Angeles we use the latest and most effective lasers in treating Rosacea. The vascular structures which are responsible for causing Rosacea respond to the precise energy level and wavelength of light that is emitted via the laser. The small spot of laser light travels through the skin and is absorbed by the blood within these vessels. The resulting heat coagulates or clots the blood and destroys the function of the vessel. Over time, the vessel is absorbed by the body and disappears from sight. This leads to reduction of the redness and flushing appearance of facial skin.
How many treatments are needed?
Most patients respond to 3-5 treatments spread over several months, each given 3-4 weeks apart. Each treatment lasts 15-20 minutes and you can resume your daily activities immediately.
What types of lesions/birthmarks can be treated?
Usually most pigmented lesions and birthmarks (portwines, hemangiomas, cafe au lait, etc...) will benefit from laser therapy. You have to be seen by the doctor to see exactly what lesions you have and if you can benefit from laser therapy.
How long does each treatment last?
This depends on the type and size of the lesion. Approximately 5-10 minutes.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to type of lesion. Multiple treatments are usually needed to achieve satisfactory results. The doctor can give you more information once he sees the lesion that you need treated.
Microdermabrasion
Women and men across America are finally able to enjoy what millions of Europeans have experienced for years in pursuit of youth and beauty. Developed in Italy, microdermabrasion is a highly effective, clinically proven technique for treating fine lines, wrinkles, scars, acne, and stretch marks. When combined in treatment with laser and aesthetic creams, the physician can achieve much greater results in treating various skin conditions. Microdermabrasion has been cleared by the FDA in recent years and has since then enjoyed great public acceptance in the United States.
What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a treatment where very fine crystals of aluminum oxide are sprayed onto the skin under pressure and vacuumed back at a fraction of a second. This leads to removal of the superficial skin layer, without damaging the integrity of the skin. When repeated multiple times, this allows the younger softer skin to move to the surface, and literally erasing "wrinkles" and skin imperfections.
What types of conditions can be treated?
Erasing fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, blackhead/whitehead removal, treating sun damaged skin, scars, and stretch marks.
How many treatments are needed?
It depends on your skin condition. Most patients require 5-10 treatments spread out a week apart. Many patients even come for a monthly treatment on a regular basis in order to maintain a youthful skin.
How does the the laser remove scars and stretch marks?
Since the etiology of scars and stretch marks are the same, they are treated with the same laser technique. A special laser beam is transmitted through the skin which loosens the collagen fibers, thus loosening the essence of the scar or stretch mark. The laser energy also creates a mild inflammation in the dermis structures which causes the body to restructure the area and create newer skin. This is time leads to disappearance of the scar and stretch marks. Final results are achieved gradually over several laser treatments.
How long does each treatment last?
Depending on the size and location of the body to be treated, between 10-30 minutes.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to your specific skin type and color. Usually five to six treatments spread out a month apart are required to achieve satisfactory results.
