What is FotoFacial / PhotoFacial / Photorejuvenation?

How is the FotoFacial / PhotoFacial / Photorejuvenation procedure performed?

A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated, and you will be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the laser handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of laser are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a rubber band. An anesthetic cream may be used, but is seldom required. Each treatment usually takes about twenty minutes. How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

What is Collagen?

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a synthetic form of the natural filler material "hyaluronic acid" which resembles collagen and is found in skin tissue.  Because Restylane is a pure synthetic product it does not require allergy skin testing as with collagen.  Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen and gives the same results as with collagen.  Restylane has been used for many years on millions of people and it is FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles.  For patients who are committed to long term maintenance, Restylane is a more cost effective treatment as it lasts longer than collagen but costs only slightly more.

What types of wrinkles can be treated?

Most commonly treated areas are the nasolabial lines, the lines around the lips, and the oral commissure lines.  Depending on the deepness and location of the wrinkles, the doctor will decide what type of collagen or Restylane would be best for you.  Collagen & Restylane can also be used on the lips to give them a fuller more attractive appearance.

What is the treatment like?

Depending on how many wrinkles you need to have corrected, most collagen & Restylane injections take about 15-30 minutes.  There is a slight pain with every injection but you can use a numbing cream prior to the treatment to make the injections more comfortable.  You will have a small amount of redness and swelling around the injection sites, but that will resolve within a few hours.  Your skin may be slightly sensitive for 1-2 days, but you can generally resume all regular activities. 

What types of leg veins can be treated?

Varicose veins, usually the deeper blue veins, need different treatment from the discolored clusters (known as "spider veins") that are near the skin surface. For this reason, our VascuLight Laser system is equipped with two different laser technologies. Each will be used as felt needed on your type of veins. This noninvasive technique can now replace the conventional surgical interventions offered in the past.

Are surface veins and spider veins treated the same way?

These smaller, superficial structures require a different technology for successful treatment, not technically a laser at all. Smaller surface veins are treated using light energy. The light energy is absorbed by the blood, changed to heat, and the vein is destroyed. You usually see immediate results with disappearance of these veins.

How many treatments are needed?

Many leg veins need multiple treatments, often over a few months before the effect is complete. Even small vessels may require some time to resolve. What is cellulite?

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic, acne-like condition of the facial skin that may affect as many as 13 million Americans, including President Clinton. It typically first appears when people reach their 30s and 40s as a flushing or subtle redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead that comes and goes. If left untreated, Rosacea tends to worsen over time. As the condition progresses, the redness becomes more persistent, bumps and pimples called papules and pustules appear and small dilated blood vessels may become visible. How is Rosacea treated with a laser?

Microdermabrasion

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a treatment where very fine crystals of aluminum oxide are sprayed onto the skin under pressure and vacuumed back at a fraction of a second.   This leads to removal of the superficial skin layer, without damaging the integrity of the skin.  When repeated multiple times, this allows the younger softer skin to move to the surface, and literally erasing "wrinkles" and skin imperfections.

How does the the laser remove scars and stretch marks?

Since the etiology of scars and stretch marks are the same, they are treated with the same laser technique.  A special laser beam is transmitted through the skin which loosens the collagen fibers, thus loosening the essence of the scar or stretch mark.   The laser energy also creates a mild inflammation in the dermis structures which causes the body to restructure the area and create newer skin.  This is time leads to disappearance of the scar and stretch marks.  Final results are achieved gradually over several laser treatments.
