Laser Hair Removal System
Laser Hair Removal System - There are many different laser hair removal systems available for the permanent reduction of unwanted hair. In order to provide the most effective treatment possible, each laser system is specifically designed to treat certain hair and skin types. Before undergoing laser treatment, it is important to research what types of lasers the clinics in your area are using, in order to make sure you are receiving the best treatment available.
The five most widely known laser hair removal system types are IPL, the Ruby laser, the Alexandrite laser, the Diode laser and the ND: YAG laser:
IPL: Intense Pulsed Light or IPL devices are not lasers. They emit broadband light of many different wavelengths, often described as ‘pulsed light’. Their large spot size makes rapid treatment possible, but their shorter light wavelengths make them less effective for the permanent reduction of hair.
The Ruby Laser: While still effective on those with lighter skin tones, this laser was the first laser hair removal system in existence; therefore the technology is somewhat outdated. The Ruby laser is very well absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles; therefore, it works well on lighter and finer hair. However, because of its small spot size and slower repetition rate, it has become a much less sought after laser hair removal system.
The Alexandrite Laser: With its adjustable spot size and fast repetition rate, the Alexandrite laser is the fastest laser hair removal system currently on the market today. The Alexandrite provides effective treatments for those with light to olive skin tones and can treat large areas, like a man's back, in about 30 minutes. Along with the Diode laser, the Alexandrite is the most widely used laser hair removal system today.
The Diode Laser: This laser hair removal system is very similar to the Alexandrite laser but differs slightly. With is larger spot size and fast repetition rate, it can treat large areas quickly and effectively. In addition, the Diode laser has a longer wavelength; therefore it can more effectively treat darker skin types.
The ND: YAG Laser: The YAG laser is the newest laser hair removal system on the market. With its longer wavelength, it is specifically designed to treat those patients with darker skin types; including tanned skin. With is large spot size and fast repetition rate, it is effective for hair removal on those with all skin types.
Despite their differences, all of these laser hair removal systems are effective as long as they are being used to treat those that their treatments are designed for. An experienced technician will be able to adjust lasers accordingly in order to maximize treatment and give clients the most effective results possible.
