For many women and men, unwanted hair can be a nuisance…or even a nightmare. Until recently, removing it was uncomfortable, inconvenient, expensive and time-consuming. With the exception of electrolysis, which can be prohibitively expensive and painful, most other methods are temporary at best.
But that has all changed. Today, with the remarkable advances in laser technology, unwanted hair is being removed safely and affordably. Laser Hair Removal has been extensively researched, tested and proven highly effective in permanently reducing unwanted hair. It works on just about any treatment area of the body where smooth skin is desired…underarms, face, neck, legs, shoulders, back, bikini line, you name it.
The American Laser Centers™ approach to Laser Hair Removal provides the ideal solution to your needs with service guarantees in writing. Our approach is often imitated, never duplicated.
Hair grows in three distinct cycles. First, the active or growth cycle (Anagen); next, the dormant cycle (Catagen) and, finally, the fall-out or shedding cycle (Telogen). Laser Hair Removal is most effective during the growth cycle (Anagen).
The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light and converts the light to heat. The heat, in turn, damages the follicle and destroys its ability to re-grow. It is important to treat each follicle during the growth cycle for maximum hair reduction.
At American Laser Centers™, your skin is compressed and cooled with the FDA-approved LightSheer™ Diode. Manufactured by Lumenis™, the nation’s leading manufacturer of aesthetic procedure equipment, the patented ChillTip™ cools before, during and after each laser pulse to protect your skin and make treatments more comfortable. A topical anesthetic is available if you experience any discomfort.
The laser pulses for just a fraction of a second, heating the hair follicle and impairing its ability to re-grow. Significantly less hair grows back with each treatment…ultimately resulting in your goal of permanent hair reduction. The number of treatments required varies from individual to individual.
Hair growth cycles differ on different parts of the body. Your skin and hair color, coarseness of hair as well as age, metabolism and other individual factors influence hair growth rate. Our experienced staff will work with you in designing a schedule to optimize your results.
Microdermabrasion is one of the most frequently sought after non-surgical, non-invasive skin care treatments available. It has been performed successfully for years in Europe and is now one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in this country for:
• Reducing fine lines and minor scars
• Treating acne blemishes
• Removing sun and age spots
• Cleaning enlarged and clogged pores, blackheads and whiteheads
• Restoring a healthy, smooth feel to skin
• Helping fight signs of aging
Microdermabrasion is safe, quick, convenient and proven effective for all skin colors and types, from light to dark, dry to oily. This age-defying process can give a brighter, smoother appearance to any skin area in need of exfoliation such as face, neck, hands and chest. Whether you have a problem area or just want a quick pick-me-up; brighter, smoother skin is waiting for you in just a few treatments.
The benefits are crystal clear.
A precise stream of aluminum oxide crystals is directed through a hand piece onto the skin. This, in turn, loosens and exfoliates the top layer of dead cells. The skin is simultaneously vacuumed to reveal a fresher, healthier looking you.
Microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layers of the dermis and stimulates the growth of collagen to further smooth and improve skin tone and appearance.
Best results are achieved through a series of treatments and a regular maintenance program.
Recommended for all skin types.
Microdermabrasion appeals to younger patients as a great way to reduce occasional blemish flare-ups, a deep cleansing facial and as preventative skin care to fight the first signs of aging before they actually appear.
For optimum results, Microdermabrasion involves a series of treatments. True, modest results may be achieved with a single visit. However, it is unrealistic and unfounded to expect significant change from just one treatment.
In the final analysis, the number of treatments depends on the type of skin you have. Our highly trained professional technicians will suggest a personal treatment plan designed to reach your desired result.
Microdermabrasion cannot remove tattoos, major acne scarring, other deep scars or deep wrinkles. It treats only the skin’s outer layer (stratum corneum). This being the case, serious side effects are not an issue. Being totally non-invasive, there is virtually no discomfort, down time or recovery. Patients typically experience some redness for about an hour after the procedure. Healing time for most is just a few days.
Look good, feel good.
Treatments usually last 20-30 minutes for the face and longer if you include your upper chest and hands. Some patients may experience a tightness and redness of the skin, comparing it to the feeling of a mild sunburn. To restore moisture that is lost during treatment, we highly recommend daily application of the Alcamia moisturizer and skincare regimen. Formulated expressly for American Laser Centers™, this unique nutrition for the skin uses specially selected ingredients to create a nourishing lotion that relieves discomfort and restores moisture while balancing the skin’s pH.

Microdermabrasion: A great age-defying way to healthier, younger looking skin. A closed vacuum system delivers aluminum oxide crystals that thoroughly exfoliate the top layers of the skin leaving them smoother and more radiant.
Photorejuvenation (Intense Pulsed Light): FDA-approved, patented technology that pulses broad spectrum light to treat the skin and eliminate signs of aging. This pulsed light technology eliminates age spots, freckles, broken capillaries and signs of rosacea while stimulating collagen production. Within a few treatments, you will see smoother and firmer skin with a decrease in fine lines and light wrinkles.
Skin Care Products: We provide skin care products for use at home that are totally compatible with the therapies outlined above.
Look as young as you feel.
Thanks to LightPulse Skin Renewal: A Combination Therapy, it is no longer necessary to suffer long periods of healing, prolonged redness and discomfort when renewing your skin. It can be performed on just about any treatment area you desire including hands, chest and neck.
You can now fight signs of aging by:
• reducing fine lines and scars
• diminishing the appearance of enlarged pores
• eliminating sun damage and photo-aging
• reducing the redness, flushing and appearance of rosacea
• fading and disappearance of freckles, age spots and liver spots
• shrinkage, fading and disappearance of spider veins
• stimulating the cells that produce collagen resulting in smoother, firmer skin.
Keeping down time down.
We individually customize a treatment program based on your specific wants, needs and desired results. The number of treatments will be determined by one of our highly trained, professional technician. Each treatment is approximately 45 minutes and will be scheduled anywhere from one day to three weeks apart.
You may experience some minor discomfort during your procedure. A topical anesthetic is available to make you more comfortable and allows many patients to receive a more intense treatment. The end result is that you revitalize your appearance without recovery downtime. Pretty smooth, wouldn’t you say?
BOTOX® is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This bacterium produces a protein that blocks the release of acetylcholine and relaxes muscles. Type A is just one of seven different types of botulinum toxin (A, B, C1, D, E, F, and G), and each has different properties and actions. No two of these botulinum toxins are alike.
More than 100 years of research have expanded knowledge of botulinum toxin type A from the identification of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum to the commercialization of botulinum toxin type A as BOTOX®.
In the 1960s, the muscle-relaxing properties of botulinum toxin type A were tapped for investigational use in realigning crossed eyes. These early studies paved the way for treating other conditions caused by overactive muscles with botulinum toxin type A.
Today, BOTOX® is produced in controlled laboratory conditions and given in extremely small therapeutic doses. It has helped over 1 million patients worldwide with conditions caused by overactive muscles.
BOTOX® blocks the nerve from releasing acetylcholine. As a result, the muscle spasms stop or are greatly reduced, providing relief from symptoms.
It's important to remember that botulinum toxin treatment is not a cure. For many people, however, its effects have been dramatic. With BOTOX®, the nerve will take about 3 months to recover and begin to release acetylcholine, and the muscles may become overactive again. At that point, another injection will be needed to provide relief, as long as no allergic reactions or other significant side effects occurred and clinical response was obtained.
The most frequently reported adverse reactions in patients with cervical dystonia are dysphagia (19%), upper respiratory infection (12%), neck pain (11%), and headache (11%). The most frequently reported adverse reactions in patients with blepharospasm are drooping of the eyelid (21%), superficial punctate keratitis (6%), and eye dryness (6%). Patients with neuromuscular disorders may be at increased risk of clinically significant systemic effects including severe dysphagia and respiratory compromise from typical doses of BOTOX®. BOTOX® is contraindicated in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s). The effects of BOTOX® therapy may be increased with the use of aminoglycoside antibiotics or with other drugs that interfere with neuromuscular transmission.
Filling in skin defects & wrinkles with COLLAGEN.
Collagen is a naturally-occuring protein that is found in the deeper layers of our skin. Over the years, it has been found to be very useful for filling in skin defects and wrinkles, as well as for enhancing the lips. Collagen generally comes in two forms. The bovine form, derived from cow collagen, requires a skin test one month before treatment to test for any allergy. The human form contains human collagen grown in a laboratory, and does not require any skin testing. The effects from collagen injection generally last three to four months.
Other injectable fillers
The search is currently ongoing for the ideal injectable filler; a material whose effect will be safe and long-lasting, if not permanent. Candidates include naturally-derived substances similar to collagen, and artificially produced materials based on silicone or acrylic polymers. Some of these products are already in use overseas to fill wrinkles, scars and other irregularities in the face, and are being tested in this country. Please feel free to contact your local advanced laser clinic office for more information.
It's estimated that over 60% of the population suffers from varicose veins and spider veins. Varicose veins are enlarged blood vessels that have widened due to a weakness in the vein wall or a problem with the valves that control the flow of blood. Spider veins are the small, superficial purple or red veins stretching like a web under the skin. Overexposure to the sun is believed to contribute to the dilation of spider veins, especially those found on the face.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), leg veins tend to increase as people age:
Treatment Options: Sclerotherapy,
VNUS® Closure® and Lasers and IPL™
The most common vein disorders today are spider veins and varicose veins. Those who find themselves suffering from spider veins will find small clusters of red, blue and purple veins on their legs. They can be very unsightly and leave people feeling self conscious about their appearance. Sclerotherapy is a procedure designed to permanently remove spider veins. This procedure leaves legs looking young and healthy.
Before the procedure is performed, the treatment area will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution. The physician will stretch the skin in the area being treated in order to keep it taut, so that he or she may inject the sclerosing agent into the spider veins. Magnification and bright, indirect light will also be used to ensure precision.
The spider vein removal procedure will involve many injections, usually one for each inch of spider vein. Anywhere from 5 to 40 injections will be given during each procedure and patients will usually require multiple procedures in order to completely rid their legs of spider veins.
Each procedure takes about 15 to 45 minutes depending on the condition of the veins. No anesthetic is required, but patients may feel some mild discomfort associated with the insertion of the needles. Patients will feel small pin pricks and a mild burning sensation during injection, but this discomfort will fade almost instantly.Like any procedure there are certain risks associated with sclerotherapy but they are very rare. These risks include:
formation of blood clots
allergic reaction to sclerosing agent
All of these risks can be treated upon development. It is important that you discuss all risks with your physician before undergoing this vein removal treatment.
This procedure does result in the permanent removal of spider veins, but it does not stop new veins from forming. Continuous vein removal treatments have allowed many patients to live very normal lives with younger, healthier, clearer looking legs.
VNUS® Closure® is a clinically proven, minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins and their underlying cause, venous reflux, with little or no pain. Closure patients can walk away from the procedure and be back to everyday activities – either at home or at work – typically within a day.
The Closure Procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis and the physician will use either a local or general anesthesia to numb the leg prior to the treatment. This procedure is performed most often in a hospital setting, but can also be performed in a physician's clinic or office. The procedure is performed in four basic steps: Map the Saphenous Vein, Insert the Closure Catheter, Deliver RF Energy and Withdraw Catheter and Closing of the Vein.
Map the Saphenous Vein:
Most every procedure begins with an ultrasound of the diseased vein. The image will help the physician trace the vein to its location which will determine where the physician will insert the Closure catheter. It will also mark the desired position of the catheter tip which will begin treatment.
Insert the Closure Catheter:
Once the saphenous vein is accessed, the Closer catheter is inserted into the vein where it is advanced to the uppermost vein segment. Physicians will most often then inject a volume of dilute anesthetic fluid into the area surrounding the vein. The anesthetic will help to numb the leg, squeeze the blood out of the vein and provide a fluid layer outside the vein which protects the surrounding tissue from heat once the RF energy is delivered through the catheter. Once the anesthetic is injected, saline will be slowly infused into the vein from the catheter tip which will further create a near-bloodless field inside the vein. This allows the catheter to preferentially heat the vein wall, rather than the blood.
Deliver RF Energy and Withdraw Catheter:
The ultrasound will be used to confirm the catheter tip position, once confirmed; the physician will then activate the RF generator, which will cause the electrodes at the tip of the catheter to heat the vein wall to a target temperature that is typically 85 degrees Centigrade or 185 degrees Fahrenheit. As the vein wall is heated, the vein shrinks and the catheter is gradually withdrawn. During the catheter withdrawal, which usually takes anywhere from 15 to 18 minutes, the RF generator will regularly adjust the power level in order to maintain its target temperature. This will effectively shrink the collagen in the vein wall and close the vein over its extended length.
Confirm Closing of Vein:
After the treatment, the ultrasound is once again used to confirm the closing of the vein. If the physician finds that a portion of the vein is not closed, the catheter can be reinserted and energy reapplied. A successful procedure will result in the narrowed vein gradually becoming fibrous which seals the interior of the vein walls which leads to the natural redirection of blood flow to healthy veins. Experienced physicians will often complete the procedure in 45 to 60 minutes.
Physicians generally instruct their patients to walk regularly for several days after the Closure procedure and return within 72 hours for an ultrasound examination. Physicians may prescribe compression stockings to be worn for several days or weeks after the procedure. Compression stockings are prescribed as a routine item for vein procedures with the goal of enhancing patient comfort in the initial days after treatment.
Lasers and IPL™
Until recently, treatment for varicose and spider veins was a long and painful process that involved needles and other invasive procedures, sometimes even surgery. Breakthrough technology, however, now provides non-invasive, gentle treatments for varicose and spider veins as well as facial blood vessels. Multi-application IPLTM System technology includes a pulsed laser light combined with a broad band of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to offer the most effective and long-lasting results for the widest range of benign vascular lesions. IPL systems selectively heat and destroy different sized blood vessels at depths below the skin's surface with excellent results. Highly trained specialists are now able to treat complex and interwoven networks of large vessels and webs of small capillaries with pinpoint accuracy, eliminating the unwanted veins and sparing the adjacent healthy ones. By delivering the laser light in highly focused pulses, the IPL computer-controlled system allows the skin and healthy surrounding tissues to cool down, avoiding thermal damage. Pain during treatment and side effects afterward are greatly reduced. Most people can immediately return to their normal routines.
Intense Pulsed Light is the treatment of choice for surface veins and spider veins, while greatly improving the overall appearance of the skin. In addition to treating blood vessels, IPL provides dramatic results for a variety of benign conditions that are common to the aging face, including age spots, sun-induced freckles, symptoms of rosacea, birthmarks, unsightly veins, acne scarring and other blemishes. Treatments are well tolerated and patients quickly return to their normal activities.
VelaSmooth™ is the first and only class II medical device with the revolutionary elos combined energy technology using Bi-Polar Radio Frequency and Infrared Light — plus tissue mobilization combined with suction to reduce the appearance of cellulite and re-contour problem areas.
